On 1 January 2019 the time had finally come when the newly founded sales company Lubera Edibles GmbH started its day-to-day operations. Just in time for the upcoming International Plant Fair (IPM) that took place from 22 - 25 January 2019 in Essen, Germany. At our joint booth, together with our sister company Lubera®, we talked to our customers, the trade press and all interested parties about the new cooperation and the associated changes regarding the young plant qualities and the revised label concept.
The first joint appearance
Already at the IPM 2018 we were able to present the project 'Lubera Edibles®', an idea that came about at the exhibition booth of our sister company Lubera®. This year, the IPM, as the world's leading trade fair for horticulture, was a great opportunity to effectively present ourselves to the general public after the founding and commencement of operations. The first media-effective marketing campaigns in the form of press releases, opening of our YouTube channel and sending out our first newsletter were already in progress. Thus, our new company concept has been met with great interest from our customers.

Visitors from home and abroad
This was demonstrated on the four days of the trade fair by the constantly high number of visitors, so that two of our Lubera Edibles employees were permanently busy with intensive discussions with customers. In addition to the many customers from German-speaking countries who were informed about the new ranges, the new and revised label concept as well as the different young plant qualities, we were also able to attract and welcome many customers and interested parties from non-German-speaking EU countries at our booth. Overall, we can see that the proportion of qualified international visitors to our booth has increased significantly.
In addition, there was a notable increase in interest in complete ranges and assortment concepts. On the one hand, this interest came directly from the plant producers; on the other hand, the interest also came from retail chains, which were able to be informed first hand by the young plant producer and/or breeder about the various assortments in the range of 'edible' plants.
Everything from one source

Through the close cooperation within the Mayer-Lubera® company family, we can offer our customers, but also all other interested parties, proficient and in-depth advice. Within our group of companies, all relevant stages of development take place in-house, so to speak, from one source, which then also increases the consulting expertise: the breeding and variety testing takes place at Lubera AG, the production of young plants happens at Mayer in Bamberg, Germany, the basic marketing and proof of concept occurs at Lubera.co.uk and the young plants are sold via Lubera Edibles GmbH.
Feedback on the presented young plant qualities
Along with the new formation of Lubera Edibles GmbH and the simultaneous conversion of the young plant production according to Bioland® guidelines, there was also a change in the qualities of young plants. We have presented the changes to our customers in due time before the start of the spring season.
The changes were as follows: the standard tray is now a sixty-cell unit, with approximately equal volumes of the individual cells. In addition, we have introduced a completely new quality with a premium strong young plant, an 18-cell tray with the dimensions of a 9 cm square pot.
In addition, we also took the IPM 2019 as an opportunity to introduce our invitro plug, which represents itself as its own young plant quality and is used above all for very large quantities per variety and type and by large customers with enough greenhouse or tunnel areas. However, the new, available young plant qualities also include the grafted one-year-old pome fruit, which were presented as ready-to-sell container plants at our booth.
To sum up, the new and very clear structure of available young plant qualities has been extremely well received by all visitors. Our young plant varieties allow the producer much better and more reliable planning when producing finished plants.
