Spring Update 2.0

Dear customers and interested parties,

I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. And I hope it stays that way.

You may have already been tempted to ask the question of what's going on out there? Your home is the same, as mine is also the same; only that most of the time all of my family members are there, which is usually the exception. And in our company, not everyone is there, at least not at the same time. This is only to minimise the risk, in case we have a quarantine case among the colleagues. A nursery is actually like a home: you can't or won't shut it down or bolt it up. But it is also like an island to which you can retreat.

At Robert Mayer we continue to prick, trim, clear, water and fertilise and at our Hungarian subsidiary Vitronövény we continue to propagate and root the plants. This is always done with the goal of supplying our customers with a perfect young plant.
We can deliver and that is important. Not only from Vitronövény to Robert Mayer but also directly from Vitronövény to our customers in Switzerland, the Czech Republic and England. This makes room for subsequent crops and sets. As in every spring, it is vital to remain flexible.

You, our customers, will hopefully do the same for us. We know that you all still have container plants from the 2019 production and we hope that you will still be able to sell them after the restrictions are lifted. There are already first signals that this will happen, at least in Germany. Only then will there be room to pot our young plants and come up with liquidity for the wages of employees and suppliers. Let's all hope that this will take place.

Let us prepare ourselves for the opportunities that lie ahead. It is just the beginning of spring. Home and garden areas will probably be even more popular with consumers than it already is. Plants, and among them especially the fruit-bearing, edible ones, will be in great demand. Our colleagues at Lubera are feeling this at the moment; they are packing parcels for online shipping almost 24/7. This is just a small drop in the ocean of consumer requests. Be prepared, the demand will come.

Keep gardening!

Rupert Mayer
