What's new in the assortment of berry young plants?

Jungpflanzen LEThanks to the breeding programme of our sister company Lubera®, we have the widest possible selection of novelties that are available in the area of berry young plants every year. Here it is up to us to decide which varieties will really make it on to the market.

Breeding raspberries at Lubera®

A major focus of breeding berries is the breeding of new raspberry varieties. This is done in-house at our sister company Lubera® or in cooperation with the breeding institute East Malling (UK). This gives us the opportunity to fully draw on raspberry novelties every year.

Himbeer Jungpflanzen LE

Due to the successes and advances regarding the breeding of autumn raspberries, it was far from clear whether the summer raspberries would have any future at all. But it was not only new pests such as the spotted wing drosophila that have convinced us not to neglect the summer raspberries entirely. Especially the concentrated harvest at the beginning of the summer and the excellent aroma are good arguments for the summer raspberries.

Summer Chef® is a late summer raspberry. It grows strongly with almost thornless canes and produces large, dark red fruits that have a superior aroma.

The compact Lowberry® series

Due to the large number of young plants from the different breeding programmes and breeding lines, we are able to steadily expand our Lowberry® range. The Lowberry® varieties are characterised by a compact habit with a low final height that is usually not higher than 100 cm. Our goal is to have all berry fruits represented as Lowberries. With the introduction of this group last year, we have already taken a big step towards this direction. For the current year, we have made new additions available for you.

Lowberry® Goodasgold® is a very early autumn raspberry with medium-sized, pale yellow fruits and a low final height (<80 cm), which is due to the early flowering. It is an ideal complement to the red-fruited Lowberry® raspberry Little Sweet Sister®.

Lowberry Baby Dwarf

Lowberry® Baby Dwarf® is a raspberry variety with a true dwarf habit and a final height of not more than 50 cm. Baby Dwarf® bears fruit on the one- and two-year-old canes. The fruits are small but sweet and aromatic.

The Lubera® blackberries

Brombeeren Jungpflanze LE

Navaho® The Big Easy® is a strong growing variety with very large, elongated and shiny, black fruits. Despite their size, the fruits have a superior taste and a balanced ratio of sweetness and sourness. Like all Navaho® blackberries, The Big Easy® has the typical, upright habit with thornless stems. In addition to the large fruits, the large flowers are very striking.

Within the young plant population, the 'autumn-bearing' plants also catch our eye again and again. However, the breeding status of the blackberries, which produce fruit on one-year-old shoots, is not far advanced. It is similar to the autumn raspberry variety 'Autumn Bliss' at the beginning of the 1990s.

Direttissima® Montblanc® is the earliest autumn blackberry on the market. It is characterised by very large fruits that have a mild, aromatic flavour. The variety has a strong, upright habit and the shoots are only slightly thorned.

In addition to the success of the breeding programmes of our sister company Lubera®, we are also always looking for novelties and specialities for our customers in order to always provide an innovative range.

Black Cascade is a variety that is not part of a breeding programme from our company group. Black Cascade is an ideal variety for hanging baskets due to its compact and slightly overhanging habit. The variety has a large number of fruits that it bears on two-year-old shoots.

Figs for Central Europe

Feige Sultane Lubera

In addition to the exclusive Gustissimo® figs, which have been selected in the Swiss Rhine valley and are therefore very well suited for planting in gardens north of the Alps, we also have robust standard varieties in our assortment that are not from the Lubera® breeding programme.

Bornholm is a fig variety from the Scandinavian island of the same name. It is characterised by its moderate growth and good resistance to frost. The variety produces red-brown, round fruits.

Brown Turkey is the classic in the fig assortment. This variety produces large, red-brown, pear-shaped fruits. The plants are vigorous and robust.
