The good thing about a joint Lubera® and Lubera Edibles® trade fair appearance is that we have the opportunity to present the current status of the product range with the appropriate young plant qualities and at the same time we can take a look at what is in the breeding pipeline in the near future, and under certain circumstances, our range will be extended.
At this year's IPM, our sister company again presented some interesting novelties. For some of these new plants, we are already certain that they will be added to our product range for spring 2020.
If you are interested in the first young plants that are expected to be available starting in spring 2020, please contact our customer service as soon as possible.
Schlaraffia® raspberries
Picture: Schlaraffia® raspberries in our breeding/selection field
The varieties in the group of Schlaraffia® raspberries work for the gardener. They can be grown without problems and they yield a very large crop without too much horticultural input. Schlaraffia® raspberries offer the following advantages:
- Medium high growth with an ideal height of 120-150 cm; everything grows at arm's length or even directly into the mouth...
- Thornless
- Extremely high yielding with minimal effort
- Easy in almost every way: little susceptibility to disease, reliable, robust
They are particularly suitable for growing in pots and for informal gardening, so not necessarily classically trained on a support, but rather scattered as individual plants or small groups of plants in the garden, combined with other woody plants or even perennials.
Schlaraffia® Plentiful® is a variety with exceptional fertility, beating many known varieties by far. The harvest begins in mid-July, with the main harvest window at the end of July until the beginning of August. The fruits, which are huge at the beginning of the harvest, become medium-sized in the middle of the main crop, simply because of the excessive number of flowers and developing fruits. After the main crop, the side shoots start to bear fruits, allowing the harvest to last well into the autumn months.

Short description of the autumn raspberry Schlaraffia® Plentiful®
Cultivation: An autumn raspberry that has the ability for a Twotimer® yield
Fruiting period: Very early, the first fruits are ripe starting in the 3rd week of July; the main harvest is from late July to mid-August
Fruits: At first large and conical, then medium-sized fruit (due to the gigantic yield)
Growth: Thornless shoots, bushy growth, well-branched
Breeding: Bred in the joint English breeding programme of East Malling Research and Lubera®
Schlaraffia® Nibbleme® is one of the earliest autumn raspberries ever, if you can still speak of 'autumn' here. The main harvesting window of this variety starts already in mid-July and lasts until the beginning/middle of August. The stable and upright shoots then bear a large number of huge fruits that do not get significantly smaller as the harvest progresses.

Double Pleasures® strawberries
Picture: Double Pleasures® strawberries
The strawberry varieties from the Double Pleasures® series are everbearing ornamental strawberries with pink flowers and very tasty fruit. Here, two different main features are combined in one series. On the one hand, there are the good tasting fruits and on the other hand, there is the outstanding ornamental value of the pink flowers. In addition, the varieties are all day-neutral, which allows rich flowering and also a large harvest throughout the entire growing period.
Initially, the Double Pleasures® series consists of two different varieties. One of them is Double Pleasures® hanging Pink Wonder. As the name suggests, this is a variety that is ideal for hanging baskets and it is particularly eye-catching with its large, intensely pink, partially semi-double flowers.

Fresh-T® - a real tea plant (Camelia sinensis) from Lubera®
Picture: real tea plant 'Fresh-T'® as a container plant on patio
Although the common tea plant is a subtropical species, it was able to adapt to more northern areas that have more winter coldness due to human selection. To find tea plants for Central Europe you simply have to fall back on the right sources. In the past few years, various origins have been tested at Lubera® primarily for their winter hardiness. We have found Korean seedlings to be the most promising. After selecting the plants with the most winter hardiness, we were able to move on to the tasting process. Here also the best plants were selected and individually cloned. As a result, we will soon be able to bring varieties with different properties such as growth, leaf size but also tea intensity onto the market.
Benefits of the tea plant Fresh-T®
- Average winter hardiness down to -15°C when the roots are protected with insulating material
- Beautiful and healthy growth
- Suitable for aromatic green teas and fresh tea infusions
- A fine-scented tea can also be obtained from the flowers
