Order times, delivery windows & young plant qualities – How to plan your season perfectly

einjährige Himbeer Jungpflanzen, Himbeeren schneidenIf you have ever wondered when exactly we deliver which young plants in which qualities, then you have come to the right place. This article addresses the most frequently asked questions from our customers:

  • What young plant qualities are available at Lubera Edibles?
  • When will what be delivered?
  • And: When is the best time to place an order?

Read on and benefit from a clear overview – for better planning, more efficient production and more successful crops.

What qualities of young plants do we offer?

We basically distinguish between two main qualities of young plants in the small fruit sector over the course of the year. Our range of young plants is complemented by an independent assortment of vegetable young plants with a separate delivery window.

The quality delivered depends primarily on the desired delivery date – or more specifically, on the planned calendar week.

Annual young plants from spring production

For deliveries from the beginning of May, we produce a fresh batch of young plants in spring for many of our main crops (e.g. raspberries, blackberries, kiwis, rhubarb). These are:

  • juvenile and vigorous
  • ideal for rapid cultivation from late spring
  • particularly suitable for late pot sets or summer production

Overwintered young plants from summer production

These plants undergo a completely different process: they are cultivated in summer, go into natural winter dormancy at our cultivation site in autumn – and are then frozen in a controlled manner. This allows us to artificially prolong dormancy and deliver these plants reliably from January onwards – regardless of the weather and in deep winter dormancy.

We offer individual crops – especially woody shrub fruit – exclusively as overwintered young plants. Overwintered young plants deliver more reliable results in production, especially for wild fruit.

Exception: vegetable young plants

Unlike berry and shrub fruit, our vegetable young plants have their own season. We have therefore established a separate delivery window for them. The EverVeg® vegetable young plants play a special role here. Due to the mostly perennial nature of the EverVeg® assortment, these young plants are also available outside the actual vegetable window.

When do we deliver which plants?

Our main delivery period is in the first half of the year. We have three fixed delivery windows for berries and shrub fruit, as well as a separate delivery window for vegetables.

Delivery window 1 - Weeks 02–17

We start with the overwintered plants right at the beginning of the year. At the beginning, they are still in total winter dormancy, but as the season progresses, they are already growing or slightly sprouting.

Delivery window 2 - Week 18–28

Now our fresh, spring-propagated young plants arrive – annual, vigorous and ready for fast-growing crops. The exception to the rule are individual varieties or crops that are produced exclusively from overwintered plants.

Delivery window 3 - Week 33–34

For anyone who wants to restock in summer – for example, after good sales over the summer or to supplement an existing pot set.

Vegetable delivery window - Week 12–16

Our vegetable young plants have their own seasonality, which is why we have a specially tailored delivery window for all vegetable crops. The young plants are freshly produced and ready for a successful season.

Delivery window at a glance

Delivery window Calendar week young plant quality
Window 1 Week 02-17 Overwintered
Window 2 Week 18-28 Fresh & Overwintered (depending on crop and/or variety)
Window 3 Week 33 & 34 Fresh
Vegetable window Week 12-16 Fresh

When should you order?

The answer is clear: the earlier, the better.

Ideally, we should receive your order 12 to 15 months before the desired delivery date, but no later than during the summer before.

Why so early?

  • Production of overwintered young plants begins in June/July of the previous year.
  • Production planning for overwintered young plants starts another 3–4 months earlier.
  • Later changes are hardly possible, as propagation capacity and cultivation area are already committed.

Ordering early not only secures your desired varieties, but also highly demanded new varieties or limited-quantity assortments.

Our service: the non-binding summer enquiry

To help you with your planning, we send a non-binding quantity enquiry to our existing customers in the summer, based on the last order. This is the perfect time to:

  • reflect on the past season
  • adjust assortments
  • plan new varieties
  • make provisions for the coming season in good time

Because: After the season is before the season!

Conclusion: The right timing is crucial

Whether propagated in spring or overwintered, whether berries, fruit or vegetables – with the right young plants at the right time, you lay the foundation for successful production. Take advantage of our clearly structured delivery windows, plan for the long term – and secure the right quality early on.

We look forward to supporting your cultivation planning with strong young plants and innovative assortments.
